For various reasons we moved back to France in December 2023 after living in Scotland for four years. After a difficult start searching in a different part of France, vehicle breakdowns etc we ended up around 15 km from where we lived before. It was a good decision, we have renewed our friendships , found a lovely house in a friendly village. The house had suffered some subsidence in previous years, nothing unusual for the area, was very neglected and dirty. We saw its potential and agreed a sale and a substantial discount on the asking price.
We have worked hard for the last two years to renovate the interior and cut back the garden.
We found getting back into the system challenging after Brexit. We now need a resident identity card renewed every year. We managed to get into the health system, just a long drawn out process with lots of visits to various offices.
Now that’s done we can relax a bit, we have taken advantage of of the excellent health service, we have a great local doctor, I have had an operation on my prostrate to relive the ageing problems that a lot of men of my age suffer from, Karen has had both her cataracts removed, the last one this week.
We work for a few hours still most days either inside whilst the weather has been bad or outside now we have a few days of sunshine, the recent storm with winds of 140 kph brought down seven trees, six in the garden, three of which fell into our neighbours garden blocking their driveway. One had fallen into the road blocking the traffic, it had been moved by a local farmer by the time we had got up along with several others around the village. I cleared the neighbours driveway later that day and have been working on the trees in the garden.
